About Me
I am a freelance artist and craftsman based in Berkshire, UK. I graduated with a first class degree in Model design at the University of Hertfordshire and have worked as an armourer and prop maker in the film industry since 2015. I have a keen interest in history, and most of my work focuses on the use of traditional materials and techniques where possible.

This site began as an online portfolio to showcase personal projects but now encompasses a small leatherworking enterprise. I specialise mostly in traditional Western style hand tooling and historical recreations. Visit my shop to view stock availability.

Process
Leatherwork
Every item I make is fully handmade. I purchase leather hides in their natural undyed state and from there pattern, cut, tool, dye, finish and sew without machine aid. I do not aim for a compromise of quality and take no shortcuts in the manufacturing process-often the designing of a tooled pattern will take longer than the tooling itself. In simple terms I build up to a standard, not down to a price.
Leather tooling is a labour intensive process and there is no way of replicating it well through other methods. Embossing stamps and wheels can make a reasonable approximation but only with short repeating patterns and never with the definition or detail of a fully hand carved piece. Hand made means I am not working to the confinements set by a particular tool and therefore allows for a level of customisation simply not possible by other means.

Likewise all of my work is saddle stitched by hand. This is a time consuming process, but ultimately makes for a stronger, longer lasting product.

Knives
All knives I sell are unique hand forged pieces, made from high carbon steel and shaped traditionally with a hammer and anvil. I mostly focus on historical recreations and so handles, fittings, blade shapes and sheaths are all inspired by medieval originals. This side of the business will be expanding over the next few years.

Film and TV
Though I often take on private commissions I usually work full time as an armourer within the UK film industry, making weapons, related accoutrements, and costume pieces. Though my sideline is at present focusing on leatherwork my training is as a model maker and I am just as comfortable in a workshop environment using wood and metals and plastics as I am with leather.
